Pioneer DJ Luis Mario Rizzo

Born September 7, 1952, Luis Mario O. Rizzo is a pioneer DJ, producer, Author, and Founder & CEO of the Legends of Vinyl® Music Hall of Fame, Visual Radio “The Visionary Haven,” and the Roku L.O.V.-TV Music Channel. With over five decades in the industry, his journey began at the very birth of dance music in 1969–1970, guided by mentor and friend, DJ titan Francis Grasso, and inspired by the innovators who shaped the culture. As Luis says, “Music has no expiration date.”

From the underground clubs of New York to international stages, Luis became one of the first touring DJs, bringing the New York sound across the U.S. and abroad. He was part of the original record pool movement and among the early architects of modern DJ mixing, embracing and advancing techniques that would define generations.

In 1977, he made history as the first club DJ to perform a four-hour continuous live mix on New York’s WKTU FM, bridging the club and radio experience. His career carried him through legendary venues including Cobra’s Lair, The Copacabana, The Cat Club, Le Cocu, The Sting, Directoire/Twinkle Zone, Abracadabra, Cork & Bottle, The Ritz, Night Moves, Reflections/Ginza, Adonis, The Tower Suite Disco, The Rooftop, DVA, Les Mouches, Studio 54 (as a guest DJ for 2 private events), The Top Floor, Avenue One, Seconds, Percival, L’oubliette, Rockabout, Magique, Somebody’s, Chip n Dales, Mr. Laffs, The Rainbow Room, Top of The World, Avolation, Melons, Levels, Stillwind, Iperbole, The Lollipop, Green Parrot, Galaxy, Ground Zero, and countless iconic clubs worldwide.

With his manager and agent Roy Webb steering the course, Luis’s ascent became unstoppable. Las Vegas called, and in 1979, under the bright lights of Club Money, a nationally televised moment was about to unfold, one that would echo across the music world. Before a captivated audience, Luis stood at the crossroads of an era. In a bold, symbolic act, he ignited the dawn of a new sound, the New Wave movement. It was more than a performance; it was a declaration. A turning point in music history, led by a pioneer who didn’t just follow the evolution of sound… he defined it.

Throughout the decades, Luis continued to evolve, expanding into club ownership, production, and large-scale entertainment concepts across South Florida and beyond. His influence extended internationally, with performances and honors across Europe and major festival stages.

Today, as the visionary behind Legends of Vinyl®, he leads a globally respected organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the pioneers of dance music culture. Through awards, events, and education, Luis remains committed to protecting the legacy, integrity, and truth of an industry he helped build.

Using this history, Legends of Vinyl® will continue to highlight and honor Pioneer Peers DJs who are still actively performing for audiences to enjoy listening and dancing too. Luis Mario tells the story of capturing this aspect of music history in a book published in June 2026 entitled, “The Rhythm of A Dream, My Love, My Legacy. A Memoir by Luis Mario O. Rizzo.
